Bee Collective is a fiscally sponsored program under I AM VOICES INC. dedicated to improving maternal health, early childhood education, and community well-being. Our mission is rooted in the belief that every individual—especially pregnant people, parents, and early educators—deserves the tools, support, and resources to thrive, ensuring a healthier, more resilient community.
Our Mission
The mission of Bee Collective is to ensure that every child enters kindergarten socially and emotionally ready to learn, every pregnant person and parent has the well-being and tools to navigate maternal health and early care systems, and that families are empowered to build resilience. We work to reduce mental health stigma across all ages and support our community’s most vulnerable.
We exist to reduce maternal and infant mortality and morbidity in the Lowcountry of South Carolina through education, advocacy, and support. By recruiting, training, and supporting a new generation of birth workers, we honor the wisdom and traditions of elder and ancestor granny-midwives who have protected and served our communities for generations.
Our Vision
Our vision is to build upon the strengths of our hardest-to-reach communities—particularly pregnant individuals, children, and caregivers—co-creating a beloved community centered on dignity, respect, and healing. We envision a community where maternal health, early education, and social-emotional well-being are prioritized and where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Our Work
Bee Collective is focused on creating sustainable change by providing resources and support for maternal health and early childhood education. Our initiatives include:
- Birthing Justice: Addressing disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes, with a focus on reducing mortality and morbidity rates in South Carolina’s Lowcountry.
- Healing Justice in Early Childhood: Supporting early educators and caregivers with the tools and knowledge needed to nurture children’s social, emotional, and educational development.
- Coalition Building & Research Justice: Creating a multi-generational network and Community of Practice for birth workers in South Carolina through our BEE Birthing A Community Coalition. This initiative connects birth workers, advocates, and community members to reduce health inequities and foster collaboration.
- Training and Support for Birth Workers: Recruiting, training, and supporting a new generation of birth workers who respect and integrate the wisdom of traditional granny-midwives while advocating for modern, equitable care.
Why Bee Collective?
By focusing on community-driven solutions and honoring the traditions of our ancestors, Bee Collective works toward creating a just, supportive, and resilient community. Our efforts are centered around breaking down barriers, reducing stigma, and improving access to resources, all while empowering those who are often underserved in maternal health and early childhood education.
