I AM VOICES to Open First Transitional Home in North Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — The first transitional home in South Carolina that is focused on girls aging out of the foster care system who have been impacted by sexual violence is coming to the Lowcountry.

The non-profit organization I AM VOICES has already leased a house in North Charleston.

Now, it needs help to furnish it.

Megan Manigault, the founder of the organization, says this is I AM VOICES’ first home, called “Blooming Flower Transitional Home.”

It’s for young women ages 18 to 24. Once they’re in, they can stay for up to a year.

The home will provide the girls with resources to help bloom them into their own person. There will be therapy training, financial literacy classes and so much more.

Before the home opens in Spring 2021, it needs a little TLC, and that’s where the community comes in.

“The things that we need?” asked Manigault. “Everything that everyone needs for a house! We need bunk beds, twin beds, we need furniture, we need computers, we need the computer desk, we need tables, we need the chairs, we need utensils! We need funding.”

In the three years since its inception, the organization has helped around 500 girls through its programs, workshops, camps and events.

Manigault says you can help too! They’re in need of community partners to help these young women out and volunteers.
