Walk in North Charleston Raises Money for Victims of Sexual Assault

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — “For me, I had my first experience of sexual violence at the age of 5 years old. It went on for several different times throughout my life. I had so many different experiences from rape, molestation and incest.”

Those are the reasons Megan Manigault says she has been working since 2017 to help women and girls who’ve experienced sexual trauma, just as she has.

Manigault is the founder of I Am Voices, a non-profit dedicated to victims of sexual assault. On Saturday, her organization put on their third annual Walk Against Sexual Violence in North Charleston.

The goal was to raise money for the Blooming Flower Transitional Home, which Manigault opened last month.

“It feels great knowing that I can be the support to other young women and also that I have a team behind me, because I could not do this without having a team,” said Manigault.

Manigault says the home can serve up to eight people.
